Since early 2018, Camper & Nicholsons Marinas has played an integral part in creating and designing the largest marina complex in the Middle East – Dubai Harbour Marina which is collection of 4 individual marinas with a capacity of over 1,000 berths, with facilities capable of handling yachts up to 160m LOA, centred around a large reclaimed peninsular.
Camper & Nicholsons Marinas was originally contracted to provide a detailed design and study for the Dubai Harbour marinas. This included a comprehensive market assessment, international market positioning strategy, concept design and technical feasibility report, complete with a strategy for multiple yacht and private members clubs and the design, for some of the largest superyacht berths in the world.
Following the feasibility and design review, Camper & Nicholsons Marinas were asked to provide detailed technical designs for all elements of three of the four marinas. Camper & Nicholsons international expertise helped inform the marina master plan and final design detail. This ensured efficient use of water areas and to ensure ease of use for all guests, so the marina remains a focal point in Dubai for many years to come.
During the detailed design period, the large-scale reclamation and construction work on the marina was already well underway, thus requiring constant and seamless communication with the client technical consultants to ensure any design changes could be made simultaneously with the construction team. This in combination with Camper & Nicholson’s experience proved to be invaluable in avoiding considerable additional expenses and major flaws in the design.
The design of the Dubai Harbour marinas was to integrate a cruise ship terminal, residential towers and a unique entertainment environment that will become a ‘maritime leisure hub’ and significant feature of the Dubai waterfront. The whole project to be completed in time for the highly anticipated Dubai 2020.
Added value:
- Detailed re-design and optimisation of the extensive berth layouts across three separate marinas
- Early consideration of the master plan resulting in an integrated active waterfront combined with efficient and safe operation
- Design of the largest VVIP superyacht berths in the GCC at 160M LOA coupled with the design of power supplies in the region of 1,600 amps with a total capacity in excess of 43 Mega Watts
- Optimised design of three fuel docks, boatyard and facilities for re-fit & maintenance, crew facilities and operations control
- Designed some of the worlds largest Mega Yacht moorings with ground tackle in excess of 600 metric tonnes.
- Design included feature platforms for pop-up exhibits and vendors on water, encouraging guests to get close to the yachts
